Over 200 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers from Pennine Division took part in their Big Weekend event at Linnet Clough Campsite in Mellow at the start of July. The Summer themed weekend aimed to provide girls with a range of outdoor activities that they can’t normally do at their unit meetings. Read more here.

The event was the largest the local Guiding Division has ever held for all sections.
Rainbows ventured on a low ropes course, braved the dark on a cave bus and developed a head for heights on the climbing wall whilst
Brownies, conquered ‘the cube’, tested their determination to climb ‘Jacob’s ladder’ and worked as team to stack crates!
For Guides and Rangers it was all about hitting the target with tomahawks, rifle shooting and archery.
Everyone that took part agreed that the highlight of the weekend was the giant 100ft long inflatable assault course!
After working up an appetite everyone enjoyed burgers and hot dogs from a barbecue and cool treat from the ice cream van!

The evening ended around the campfire with singing and the toasting of marshmallows and just incase anyone had any energy left, girls competed in a fairground themed wide game!
Almost two hundred girls attended the weekend with 130 of them staying over in tents or in bunk rooms. Of course, no Girlguiding event is complete without a souvenir badge which were presented along with the thank you gifts.
The weekend was entirely organised by volunteer leaders, led by local Commissioner Lindsay Bann, who described the event as “A fabulous weekend showing what girls are capable of and that they can do anything!”
