At Girlguiding Manchester we are proud of our record of taking young members away on resiential events, whether it be an overnight at the unit meeting place, a camp or holiday in the UK or even an inernational adventure.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about residentials and has the drive to see more girls enjoy these opportunities.

Role Description : County residential adviser

Role

To promote, encourage and be responsible for the standards and administration of all aspects of camping and residential holidays for the County. This role may be shared either with one role concentrating on camping and the other on indoor residentials or one role focussing on Rainbows and Brownies and the other on Guides and Rangers. If shared, the two volunteers should work together closely.  They may combine reports and only one need attend the meetings as mentioned below.

Personal Qualities

  • Hold a Residential Qualification and have taken girls away within the last three years
  • Understand the value of the outdoors for girls and adults
  • Have a good understanding of the Going Away Scheme (available here)
  • Keep up-to-date with changes and advise the County Commissioner, County Executive and members as necessary

Term

An initial term of three years and may be re-appointed for a further two years. Reappointment is not automatic.

Responsible to

The County Commissioner

Working with Joint Residential Adviser (if appropriate) and the County Outdoor Activities Adviser.

Responsibilities

  • Be an active member of the county team. Represent all aspects of residentials within that team.
  • Liaise with and act as Adviser to the County Trustees on residential matters.
  • Attend County meetings as required to share and receive information.
  • Attend Region Residential Adviser meetings as required.
  • Receive and share information received from the Country/Region via the PR team
  • Arrange training sessions (with the County Training Team) and assessments for camping and residential holiday qualifications for leaders, and support testing for girl’s badges, permits and certificates.
  • Use the County designated email address for correspondence relating to the role.
